The Search Committee is responsible for advising the corporation on the appointment and reappointment of members of the corporation other than the Principal (who is eligible to serve on the corporation as result of the post) having regards at all times to the provisions of the instrument and articles of government, the policy of the corporation and evaluation of the contribution of members seeking reappointment.
Under the articles of government, the governing body is not required to seek the advice of the search committee when appointing parent, student or staff members, who will generally be elected by their constituent groups. The search committee gather nominations in respect of vacancies within the Corporation and determine and apply the processes whereby such nominations are screened and shortlisted. In the event of more interests being registered than are available then the search committee will develop and maintain a suitable database of potential candidates.
A bi-annual skills audit of existing members helps the search committee to identify potential new members whose skills and experience would complement those of the existing membership. This also offers the opportunity to utilise any new areas of interest or expertise from the existing members in order to continue to support the College in different ways.
The search committee also supports the Clerk in dealing with governance issues. Any revision of the Articles and Instruments of Governance are discussed by the search committee and recommendations made for implementation.
Induction training, ongoing governor training and any additional form of continuous professional development is also monitored by the search committee to ensure that all members have appropriate information and suitable opportunities for development. However, the key area is ensuring that members are continually involved in College life. This may be as a member of an interview panel, attending a drama performance or being a guest at the annual awards and presentation evening. By understanding the ethos of the College, members are better placed to make a valuable contribution.
FULL TERMS OF REFERENCE FOR THE COMMITTEE ARE AVAILABLE FROM THE CLERK TO THE CORPORATION
