British Day

The College held British Day to celebrate being British and living in Britain. So what makes us British? Is it the Royal Family, maybe it’s fish and chips or perhaps the weather?
The event is aimed at encouraging us to consider what we have in
common, rather that what makes us different.
Students and staff from the Equal Opportunities Committee
contributed to an informative and entertaining presentation to all
our students that involved a range of topics from the Queen to the
controversial views of the BNP.

This is a College initiative to set out the themes of the Celebrating Diversity booklet. Displays are produced, featuring prominent historic figures and equality and diversity issues. All students attend an assembly, which discusses the significance of encouraging students to mix beyond ethnic and religious groups and tackles our response to the BNP and political Islam. Students then take part in a tutorial activity that follows up the themes of the assembly and a quiz on historical figures, for which there is a prize.
