Welcome to the Diversity Network www.diversitynetwork.org.uk is a website aimed at FE and Sixth Form Colleges with a diverse student intake. The site is designed to act as a means of sharing good practice and exchanging resources that may be useful to promote equality and diversity. The network was set up with funding from Greater Manchester LSC after an equality conference at the Reebok Stadium, Bolton, in June 2004 held jointly with The Oldham College. It is updated by Bob Hindle, Assistant Principal at Bolton Sixth Form College. Finding Resources. The site is designed to help identify useful resources for colleagues responsible for race equality, including possible activities for use with students, as well as external publications on community cohesion and integration. Equal Opportunities at Bolton Sixth Form College The College won the Centre for Excellence in Leadership/Network for Black Professionals AoC Beacon Award for Promoting Race Equality in 2006/07. It was "highly commended" in the AoC/Network for Black Managers Beacon Award for Promoting Race Equality in 2002/03. The College was inspected by OFSTED in October 2007, who judged that "the college's approach to inclusion is outstanding” and that it "permeates the life of the College". Celebrating Diversity: What we have in common The College recently produced the fourth edition (2009) of its acclaimed Celebrating Diversity booklet, with a focus on encouraging students to get to know each other better. As in other local Colleges, for many students BSFC is their first experience of a truly multi-racial and multi-faith environment and many tend at first to self-segregate on ethnic or religious lines. The booklet is designed to provide background information about the importance of celebrating diversity within this context. It contains information on religions and beliefs represented at the College and additional information about cultural issues, including dress, marriage and political Islam. It also includes student views on the extent of integration at BSFC. The booklet, which is distributed as part of the induction process for all new staff and students, forms a cornerstone of the College's strategy to promote equality and diversity.
