Financial Support

The Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) is a national scheme available to students (depending on eligibility) between the ages of 16-19. It is a weekly payment of up to £30 per week for attending College plus bonuses. Payments are dependant on 100% attendance, consistent effort and good behaviour.

The above scheme is also available for 19 year olds in the form of the Adult Learning Grant (ALG). For any applicant who has children, there is also a scheme to pay for child care costs named Care to Learn. The schemes are jointly funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) and the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) and are administered by them.

If you have not already completed an application, forms can be obtained either from the DCSF website, the College information systems department, the Connexions service or by telephoning the LSC on 0800 121 8989.

There is a link to the EMA website on the right hand side of this page.
