Biology Students Explore Biodiversity

Date Posted: 10/05/2018 | Posted In: A Level, College News, Student News

Second year students had a trip to Formby sand dunes to practice ecology survey techniques. The field trip was part of the A Level Biology practical endorsement and was a great success. We were not as lucky as last year, when sun cream was a must, but students enjoyed a rain-free five hours exploring the biodiversity of the dune habitat. They used sampling grids and quadrats to investigate the distribution of specialist plant species in areas with different environmental conditions. It was not all hard work, students also had the chance to watch filming for the upcoming War of the Worlds TV series, which was happening on the beach. The trip finished with an ice cream before returning back to Bolton. Find out more about A Level Biology.
