College Christmas Card Winners Announced!Date Posted: 04/12/2018 | Posted In: A Level, College News, Student News
Congratulations to Abigail Entwistle and Tessa Browne, who are the winners of the College Christmas card competition. A live brief was set by the Marketing Department to design a card which would be sent to key people in our feeder schools, Governors, businesses and colleges. The competition was aimed Art and Design students in College, allowing them to experience the challenges of working on a real project.
The winner was chosen by Marketing staff and the College Principal, Mr Stuart Merrills. There were lots of fantastic entries and after much deliberation a Photogram idea was chosen which showed creative flair and various interesting techniques. Winners Abigail and Tessa, who are both studying A Level Photography at College, worked on the design together.
‘Firstly, we collected a number of items fitting the theme of Christmas, such as small fern leaves. We also used old fairy lights to replicate the stars on top of the tree and large crystal like gems to use as baubles. Lastly, small crystal gems and snowflakes were used to create the idea of a snow scene. To create the photogram we used the darkroom, placing the items on top of light sensitive paper and exposed light to the paper for 10 seconds using the enlarger. The images then went through the developing process. The design was further developed using Adobe Photoshop where the image was inverted. This helped to create the illusion of a snowy scene’.
Abigail and Tessa received a Love to Shop vouchers and will get to see their winning design in print. Thank you to everybody who entered the competition. We were blown away by all your fabulous efforts and hard work – you really made our judging panel work hard to select a winning design!
