Young Carer Praised By HealthwatchDate Posted: 15/03/2018 | Posted In: A Level, Student News
Congratulations to student Angel Leighton who has been praised by Healthwatch Bolton for her presentation at the Octagon Theatre highlighting her experiences as a young carer. Angel who is studying A Level Psychology, A Level Sociology and Single Vocational A Level in Health and Social Care, planned and delivered a presentation for over 100 people. Angel, who had no previous experience of public speaking delivered a fantastic speech exploring the challenges and rewards of caring for a sibling with disabilities. She is also in the early stages of developing a support group within College, for other students who are in a similar position to herself. This is being carried out with the support of the Learning Services Team.
Angel, along with College staff will be encouraging young people to come forward, share experiences and support each other. Karen Hampson, Senior Leader & Learning Services Manager commented ‘Many young people do not identify themselves as young carers, as their responsibilities are things they have always done. Angel is a proactive student who always strives to help others, even through her own difficult times. This is a well-deserved award’.
