B6 STUDENTS PRESENT TO HEWLETT PACKARD ENTERPRISE SALES LEADERSHIP

Date Posted: 19/04/2023 | Posted In: Careers, Computer Science & IT

A group of Sixth Form students travelled into Manchester for a fantastic workplace safari event at Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) last term. Many of the students who took part have followed the Computing, IT, Digital Strategy and Cyber Security Pathway in the Professional Growth Programme here at The Sixth Form.

The day kicked off with and overview of HPE and the apprenticeships and careers available there. The students were then given a tour of the HPE offices followed by a lunch with an opportunity for speed networking and relaxing in the breakout area.

The afternoon focussed on the students’ pitches. The group had been set a live brief by HPE to create a tech storage solution for a client. Students had to consider the client’s needs, budget, product specifications and in the pitch on the day convince the panel of judges that their solution was the best option for the client. Students spent six weeks working on this independently and came together on the day in teams to combine their ideas into one final team pitch.

Hiren Vaghela, B6 alumni member and Senior Commercial Account Executive at HPE was one of the team who hosted the group on the day and said:

Hewlett Packard Enterprise are proud to sponsor the Technology Pathway for The Sixth Form Bolton students, to encourage more students to explore careers in technology and STEM overall. The Manchester STEM team were delighted to organise  ‘The Workplace Safari at HPE’ for a selected group of students to see a day in the life at HPE. The students were challenged in the same way we as a technology company, are challenged by our customers – to help resolve their challenges and exceed their expected outcomes. As an alumni student of The Sixth Form Bolton, it was great to see the skills from each of the students participating and, each contributing to a great presentation to our leadership. I hope the students see Hewlett Packard Enterprise in Manchester & the UK as a an inclusive organisation where they could start their careers in the near future.

Emily Dover, B6 Careers & Employability Advisor, was really happy with the day and said:

We are so grateful to HPE for putting on this workplace safari for our students, it was a unique opportunity to bring the learning students have been doing in the Professional Growth Programme to life in a real work environment. Our students did us proud, impressing HPE staff with their research skills and their ability to understand and meet a client brief. They were particularly impressed by the quality of slides each team created, and their communication skills in the pitches. It is proving harder than ever for young people to secure work experience, so we are keen to arrange more workplace safari days with other local and national companies.

The Professional Growth Programme has three essential parts: online activities, live employability sessions and a variety of enrichment opportunities. Our pathways are all supported by local and national companies. We are delighted that HPE have sponsored the Computing, IT, Digital Strategy and Cyber Security Pathway and for the amazing support and unique opportunities that this has given our students.
