A Healthy Future For Work Experience StudentsDate Posted: 03/12/2018 | Posted In: College News, Student News
As the Futures Academy continues to grow and expand, students on the programme are exposed to varied experience to enhance and add depth to their overall learning. We are delighted to embark on an exciting new partnership with BMI The Beaumont Hospital. Over a seven month period, Health and Social Care students who have been successful in attaining a place on The Futures Academy will spend a week at the hospital to gain valuable experience in a healthcare setting.
Students on the programme will spend time in both clinical and non-clinical departments, providing insight into the entire patient journey. From an initial appointment to discharge following surgery, it’s important for students to understand the many different functions within a hospital.
Paul Fenner, Careers Advisor said, “The Futures Academy offers a specialised programme of study for able and ambitious students who want to go far in health related industries. Through our collaboration with The Beaumont Hospital we are now able to offer our students tailored work placements which will give them a ‘competitive’ edge.”
Nuha Afzal and Isobel Regent, the first students to complete a placement as part of the new initiative, were thrilled with the career-enhancing opportunity. Nuha commented: “It’s been an unforgettable experience as I got to see two knee surgeries in theatre. All the staff were super friendly and welcoming; I can’t thank them enough for giving up their time and making the experience more interesting.” Isobel added: “I have really enjoyed attending the placement, thank you very much for the opportunity.”
Sally Goodill, Executive Assistant at The Beaumont Hospital, has worked closely with the college to launch the new programme. Following Nuha and Izzy’s successful week at The Beaumont Hospital, Sally said: “These students are very much the future of healthcare and it is a pleasure for our staff to share their knowledge, passion and wisdom with them. We sincerely believe these outstanding students will benefit greatly from their time with us and will take away some outstanding memories.”
