Students on the Futures Academy were invited to the Health and Social Care taster day at Edge Hill university. The day began with an introduction to the university in the main lecture theatre, before students were taken to their subject areas for a number of practical tasks. Students were introduced to Midwifery, Mental Health Nursing, Social Work, Paramedic Practice, Adult and Child Nursing and Operating Department Practice.
Some students who were opting for a career in Midwifery, were involved in a number of practical tasks and used some of the simulation equipment within the clinical skills department, as well as discussing career paths with established Midwives and undergraduate Midwives. Other students explored Operating Department Practice and had the opportunity to dress for mock surgery and handle some of the surgical instruments used in operations.
Students gained fantastic insights into their chosen career pathways, which will help to inform career decisions and personal statements next year.
