Performing Arts Triple Vocational A Level (BTEC Extended Diploma)

Course Description

This is a predominately practical course with continuous assessment. Throughout the two years you will develop self-confidence, performance skills and techniques in a variety of disciplines and units are selected with your skills in mind. Your teachers have worked professionally in both TV, music, singing and theatre and you will have numerous opportunities to work with external professionals as well as performing to audiences. This course prepares you for a career in the Performing Arts industry. You will become a well-rounded performer ready for higher education or employment.

Entry Requirements

Students will be expected to have five GCSEs at grade A*C/9-4, or a Merit in a relevant vocational Level 2 Diploma (or equivalent). In addition, students will need a grade 4 in GCSE English Language and a minimum grade 3 in Mathematics. This course is equivalent to an A Level course and you will be expected to attend an audition.

Course Content

For the majority of the time you will develop your practical performance skills in our superb studio and theatre environment. Alongside this you will study the performing arts industry and gain an understanding of how you might find employment within it. There is also a supporting performance arts enrichment programme designed to work alongside your course and to help you to develop your practical skills even further. Enrichment: Want to be the next stage star? Then join Performing Arts Enrichment. Each year the Performing Arts students perform in a number of shows and events including a large scale musical at a professional theatre. There is also a choir and a band should you wish to develop your skills. Join our Performing Arts Academy to gain access to LAMDA exams and free professional skills workshops supported by The Octagon Theatre.

Future Career Opportunities

You may progress to drama school, dance school or music conservatoire and will be assisted in preparing for auditions. Careers may include becoming a dancer, actor, director, stage manager, teacher, drama therapist or choreographer. You will leave with a broad knowledge of all disciplines and the ability to apply this when auditioning for professional companies.
