Date Posted: 31/05/2022 | Posted In: Enrichment, Student News

First year student, Catherine Rhodes, has been given a once in a life time opportunity to perform as a percussionist in front of the Queen as part of the Platinum Jubilee Pageant this Sunday 5 June.

Catherine, a former Dean Trust Rose Bridge student, studies A Level Biology and Chemistry and Vocational A Level Criminology here at The Sixth Form. She is to be amongst 200 young people from Greater Manchester performing with carnival arts organisation, Global Grooves, the only northern group to produce a section of the Royal celebrations. The group will perform as part of a parade making their way through the streets of Westminster, down the Mall and past Buckingham Palace telling the story of Her Majesty’s 70-year long reign.

Catherine is a member of the Wigan Youth Jazz Orchestra, Brass Band, Percussion Ensemble and Greater Manchester Youth Band. Whilst she is extremely passionate about music, she hopes to work in forensic science in the future.

We wish Catherine and all of the Global Grooves group the best of luck for the performance and look forward to hearing all about it. The performance is being broadcast live on BBC1 from 1 pm this Sunday 5 June.
