Date Posted: 31/12/2020 | Posted In: Parent News, Student News

Dear Parent/Carer/Student,

Following the announcements made by the Government on 30/12/2020 regarding a staggered start to the spring term for all secondary and college students in England, The Sixth Form has had to make some adjustments for the return of students at the start of the spring term. The new arrangements are as follows:

Week beginning 04/01/2021

Monday 04/01/2021 – No lessons, The Sixth Form is closed to students.

Tuesday 05/01/2021 to Friday 08/01/2021 – All lessons (except for students with upcoming examinations and vulnerable students, see below) for year 1 and year 2 will be via remote/online delivery. Our expectation is that all students will register and participate in their remote lessons and studies as per their normal timetable each day.

During this week from the Tuesday to the Friday The Sixth Form will be open to vulnerable and supported students who, should they wish to, follow their normal pattern of attendance in The Sixth Form as established in the Autumn term. These students though may participate online if they prefer to do so.

Week beginning 11/01/2021

All lessons (except for students with upcoming examinations and vulnerable students, see below) for year 1 and year 2 will be via remote/online delivery. Our expectation is that all students will register and participate in their remote lessons and studies as per their normal timetable each day.

During this week The Sixth Form will be open to vulnerable and supported students who, should they wish to, follow their normal pattern of attendance in The Sixth Form as established in the Autumn term. These students though may participate online if they prefer to do so.

Free School Meals

For students in receipt of free school meal allowances for the two weeks outlined above, this will be paid direct into your account.

Examinations

The Sixth Form remains committed to providing high quality education and at this time especially for those students preparing to sit examinations in January. Students with January examinations will be expected to attend for face to face examination preparation and revision sessions, dates and times of these sessions will be communicated to students by individual subject departments. For students attending these sessions please be aware there will be no catering facilities available other than vending machines.

All examinations are running as normal, so whatever year group bubble you are in, you must attend your examinations as timetabled. You should only come into The Sixth Form for the examination, follow instructions clearly and leave immediately afterwards. You will already have received your examinations information.

COVID-19

As we have now entered tier 4 restrictions, prior to attending college, students are asked to refresh themselves of the ‘Student Covid Code of Conduct’ and are advised that the wearing of face coverings in now again compulsory in all areas and situations.

The Sixth Form is currently considering options as to how mass testing of asymptomatic individuals may be best carried out in the spring term.

I sincerely hope that all students and their families have kept safe and well over the holiday period. I will send out a further update to arrangements on the afternoon of Thursday 07/01/2021.

Best wishes,

Stuart Merrills – Principal
