Work Experience

Providing students with a well-rounded education is central to all we do at Bolton Sixth Form College. Not only do our students achieve academically but they develop effective communication and presentation skills through our specialist World of Work programme. All of this helps equip them to succeed in their future studies and careers.

The College works closely with a wide variety of local employers to ensure that students have the opportunity to experience practical and worthwhile work placements. For many university courses high quality work experience is essential as it can often make the difference in securing competitive university places.

Students have currently been placed in the following organisations:

World of Work programme

The world of work has changed considerably over the last decade and our WOW programme will equip you with the necessary skills and knowledge to prepare you for employment in your chosen career. Each module of the programme is taught using the principles of the educational theorist David Kolb whose interests and publications focussed on experiential learning. What is experiential learning? Rather than a lecture style format, experiential learning is the process of learning through experience, and is more specifically defined as ‘learning through reflection on doing’. Therefore, each session of the WOW programme is highly active and involving allowing students to learn by participating in activities that simulate employment.

All second year A Level students participate in the WOW programme with modules including;

  • Building a team from scratch – The Bruce Tuckman Theory
  • Participating in university and graduate based mock interviews
  • The origins of Public Speaking and why important
  • Budgeting your money
  • Develop personal branding and networking skills
  • CV and cover letter writing
