Date Posted: 09/02/2021 | Posted In: Student News
Last week, our first year A Level Physical Education students were virtually visited by Alumni: Henry France.
Henry recently completed his programme of study with us at The Sixth Form Bolton in 2019, where he studied: A Level Psychology, A Level Physical Education, and Vocational A Level Applied Science.
Henry did exceptionally well by the end of his academic career with us and started his journey to the university of Bath with a:
- Grade A in A Level Psychology
- Grade B in A Level Physical Education
- D* in Vocational A Level Applied Science
He is currently working towards achieving his Master’s Degree in Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Bath, which was named ‘Sports University of the Year’ in 2019.
What did our students learn during Henry’s virtual visit?
Our students were able to see for themselves the amazing facilities used by Team GB and Team Bath, they were also able to gain an insight into some of the physiological and biomechanical testing that takes place in the research labs.
Henry kindly answered lots of questions from our students such as:
- Do you recommend living away from home when at university?
Henry told our students that they should live away from home, if they can. As it has allowed him to make lots of new friends.
- What laboratory tests has Henry been able to carry out?
He has had the opportunity to carry out some drug testing in the labs using urine samples. Vo2 max testing and lactate sampling.
- What do you think about the wider university experience and opportunities?
Henry informed our students that he has thoroughly enjoyed his time participating in the university football teams, and being a member of the northern society in the student union. He highly recommended getting involved in as many opportunities as possible as it will help them stand out from the crowd, when applying for highly competitive jobs.
Henry also informed our students that he started taking part in extra-curricular activities during his time with us, where he was also a part of the Honours Programme that is unique to The Sixth Form Bolton. Being involved in the Honours Programme provided Henry with a distinctive set of opportunities for academic development and gave him the competitive edge he needed when applying for the highest quality courses and the most prestigious universities in the country.
He then stayed online to be our first guest on the department podcast which you will soon be able to access.
Henry’s Career Path
We are incredibly proud of Henry and how far he has come in such a short time, not only is he working towards a Masters Degree in Sport and Exercise at a prestigious university but he is also working at Ashton United FC as a performance analyst and secured a placement with Hibernian FC next year to further his performance analysis career.
