Police and Prison Service Provide Guest Lectures to Public Services (Uniformed Protective) Students
Date Posted: 08/12/2020 | Posted In: Student News
Here at The Sixth Form Bolton, our Public Services (Uniformed Protective) students have had the privilege of hearing from guest speakers in the Police Force and the Prison Service.
Prison Service Guest Speaker
Our guest speaker provided the Public Services Year 1 and 2 students with a clear insight into her role with 5 years’ experience working as a Prison Officer. Questions were encouraged from all students to enhance their knowledge and understanding of this Public Service role.
What did our students think of the Guest Speaker?
Joshua Holden, a Level 3 Vocational A Level student in Public Services (Uniformed Protective) thought that the session was:
“Really interesting and helpful. The prison service is one of the key services we learn about on our course so being able to ask questions and get an in-depth talk from a real Prison Officer was great.”
Daniel Lowe, a Level 3 Vocational A Level student in Public Services (Uniformed Protective) thought that the session was:
“Extremely helpful and gave us all an insight into the prison service and what it takes and the skills that you need to become a Prison Officer.”
Police Officer Guest Speaker
We were also fortunate to hear from guest speaker PC Burgess; who provided our students with his application and recruitment journey into the Police Service to help our students understand the process from start to finish.
What did our students think of the Guest Lecture?
Megan Artingstall, a Level 3 Vocational A Level student in Public Services (Uniformed Protective) thoughts on the talk:
“The talk gave me a great insight into the recruitment process of the Police Force and the expectations; if I was to choose that as a career path. It was useful and gave us all a better understanding and an honest inside look of what it would be like if we were to aspire to join the police force.”
Brandon Walmsley, a Level 3 Vocational A Level student in Public Services (Uniformed Protective) enjoyed that the Police talk was:
“Helpful for anyone that is looking to join the Police, giving them a basic understanding of what they need to know when they begin their application. Having MS teams, which allowed so many people to listen and ask questions was useful as we got to hear more from PC Burgess than we would have without MS Teams.”
Joshua Holden, a Level 3 Vocational A Level student in Public Services (Uniformed Protective) – found the session:
“Interesting and helpful! Being able to interact through Microsoft Teams and ask him questions was such a good opportunity for me as I’m looking to join the Police after Sixth Form. He answered all my questions, and I’m thankful to Mr. Scott and the Public Services team for organising it!”
