First year student Amy secures prestigious mentorship with Royal Northern College of Music

We are very proud to share that our first-year music student, Amy Harrison, who plays the drums here at The Sixth Form Bolton, has secured a mentorship with Royal Northern College of Music.
Every year Greater Manchester Higher offer a Music Mentoring Programme in association with the Royal Northern College of Music, one of Europe’s leading music conservatoires. It gives young people access to personalised, one-to-one mentoring sessions with a musician studying at the RNCM.
The Royal Northern College of Music
The RNCM houses three major performance spaces (including a fully equipped Theatre and Concert Hall), the RNCM is also a vibrant live music venue. Each year it offers unparalleled opportunities for students to perform to public audiences and to work alongside professional musicians and visiting artists.
Founded in 1973 through the merger of the Royal Manchester College of Music and Northern Schools of Music, the College is home to over 900 students from more than 60 countries. In 2017, it was rated Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework and is the UK’s leading music college for research (REF 2014). The RNCM is also the recipient of three Times Higher Education Awards (Excellence and Innovation in the Arts (2015), Outstanding International Student Strategy (2016) and Widening Participation and Outreach Initiative of the Year (2020)) and a Global Teaching Excellence Spotlight Award (2018).
Details about the mentorship:
This is an opportunity for up to 30 young people with an interest in a career in popular or classical music, to be mentored by an RNCM student following the Classical Music or Popular Music degree course.
The training includes:
- 15 Sessions of one-to-one mentoring with an RNCM undergraduate
- Opportunities to attend concerts and performances, when possible
- Insight into training as a classical, or popular musician
- A free advice audition with a member of RNCM staff Advice on career opportunities and career pathways into the music industry
- Relevant and practical experience, tailor-made.
We know that Amy will benefit greatly from all the support that RNCM will offer her during her mentorship, and that she will gain an incredible amount of experience. Well done Amy!
