The schedule of visiting speakers on the B6 Women into Leadership programme recently included the High Sheriff of Greater Manchester, Diane Hawkins DL and The Sixth Form’s very own Vice Principal, Sandra McManus.
Diane Hawkins DL – “How did I get here?”

Thank you to Diane for delivering a motivational and heart-warming talk to our students. Diane talked passionately about her legal career and the pathway she found herself on within the Greater Manchester Lieutenancy eventually being appointed by the Queen as High Sheriff of Greater Manchester.
Diane’s overall message to our young women was to “keep an enquiring mind, find something you love & remain true to yourself”
Sandra McManus – “Why Education?”
Following Diane’s motivational talk, Sandra recently delivered an inspirational session covering her own experiences in education from her childhood through to being appointed as Vice Principal of The Sixth Form. Sandra’s advice highlighted the value and privilege of education with an overarching message to “take every experience on offer, keep leading in all areas of your life and give back when you can”.
Students thoroughly enjoyed the latest talks, both of which were extremely powerful and thought-provoking. There is definitely a recurrent theme emerging on this programme, leading our students towards embracing adventure, the importance of voluntary work and making a difference to someones else’s life if you can.
The next Women into Leadership event takes place on Tuesday 14 December and a celebratory lunch will be on offer. This event is designed to allow our learners and key women leaders in our community and beyond to come together and celebrate women in leadership in a social setting. We believe that being able to meet people in more informal settings and know how to act and react is an important part of personal development and will support all manner of social mobility. Students can confirm their attendance for the lunch to Catherine Sweetlove in Admin, please email CSweetlove@bolton-sfc.ac.uk by 1st December to secure your place.
