Sixth Form Expressive Arts Alumni Visit B6

It’s always lovely when former students drop in to see us and recently a number of Expressive Arts alumni have called into B6 to visit the department.

Lizzie Curran, a former Little Lever student left The Sixth Form in 2020 with Triple Distinction * in Vocational Level 3 Art & Design. She took a year out after completing her studies to work in retail alongside training as an outward-bound instructor. Lizzie really enjoyed studying at The Sixth Form and especially enjoyed the Textiles modules of the course.

She’s now in her final year at The University of Bolton studying Special Effects Modelmaking for Film and Television BDes (Hons), a course which she found with the help of The Sixth Form’s Careers team.

Lizzie said she’s having a fantastic time at The University of Bolton and is really enjoying model making. She’s currently working on a model of Cinderella’s carriage which is going to be displayed in the Children’s Library in Bolton Central Library when it reopens following the renovation.

When she graduates, Lizzie is considering working freelance in both the Special Effects and Outward Bound sectors.

Another B6 Expressive Arts alumnus who popped in was Mollie Turner. Mollie is a former St Ambrose Barlow student and she left The Sixth Form this year after achieving A, A, B in A Level Graphics, Mathematics and Fine Art.

Mollie really enjoyed studying at B6 and said that:

The Sixth Form has some incredible tutors and teachers who clearly love what they do, and want to see their students succeed. [Students should] lean into that, and use the tutors’ knowledge and experience as an aid for themselves and their career paths.

Mollie said that her Graphic Design tutor, Debbie Wynne was really supportive and had a wealth of knowledge about working in industry. She also said that her Maths tutor, Hannah Roberts was really encouraging and fantastic at supporting Mollie with her university options.

Since leaving B6, Mollie has begin her BA Hons in Graphic Design at the University of Huddersfield. As part of her course, Mollie is required to spend a year in industry which she’s really looking forward to. She hopes to work in a Graphic Design studio in Manchester or London in her industry year. Mollie is considering a Masters in Fine Art or Illustration after graduating but is excited to explore other options whilst completing her degree.

It was great to catch up with Lizzie and Mollie. If you are a former student and would like to keep in touch, please consider joining the B6 Alumni here.
