Emily Dover, B6 Careers & Employability Advisor and Shamail Aurang, B6 Alumni Member

Shamail Aurang, a former Sharples School student has recently visited us to let us know how he’s doing in his Level 4  Apprenticeship at Vertu Motors (Jaguar Land Rover).

Shamail studied A Level Accounting, Economics and Physical Education with Core Mathematics at B6 and alongside this was part of our Apprenticeship Academy. He attended several workshops during  second-year to understand more about the competitive recruitment process involved in securing an apprenticeship.

Our Careers team were contacted by Vertu Motors (Jaguar Landrover) who were looking to come in and speak to second-year students who were studying A Level Accounting and were interested in their Level 4 Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Apprenticeship opportunity. The Accounts Manager came into The Sixth Form and met with a small group of students to explain more about their apprenticeship, he also conducted on the spot mini-interviews to get a feel for the students. He was impressed by a number of our students, including Shamail and invited them  attend a formal interview at Vertu Motor’s Bolton site.

After successfully passing his A Levels, Shamail secured the apprenticeship and has now started his 18 month Level 4 AAT Apprenticeship at Vertu Motors. The work he carries out on this apprenticeship includes: accounts payable and expenses supervisor, assistant financial accountant, commercial analyst, cost accountant, payroll manager, senior bookkeeper, senior finance officer, tax supervisor. This qualification can be used as a route to AAT full membership (MAAT).

Emily Dover who runs our Apprenticeship Academy says:

“Shamail is a great example of a student taking advantage of the opportunities provided through our Apprenticeship Academy, and in doing so, securing a great Apprenticeship and future career path. We are always open to local employers approaching us directly, to tap into our talent pool of Year second-year students who are eager to secure an apprenticeship across a wide range of sectors.”

Here at B6, our highly experienced and dedicated careers team is on hand to provide specialist careers advice and guidance to students throughout their time here. Students who have expressed an interest in securing an apprenticeship, can sign up for additional advice and support via our Apprenticeship Academy.
