Students studying three A Levels will be expected to have a minimum of two GCSEs at grade 6 and three GCSEs at grade 5/4 including English Language and Mathematics at grade 5/4 or above. Or eight GCSEs at a minimum of grade 5.
Students studying four A Levels will be expected to have a minimum of six GCSEs at grade 7, 8 or 9 including English Language and Mathematics at grade 6 or above.
These may be taken alongside A Level courses and are subject to the same entry criteria.
Students will be expected to have five GCSEs at grade 9-4, or a Merit in a relevant vocational Level 2 Diploma (or equivalent). In addition, students will need a grade 4 in GCSE English Language and a minimum grade 3 in Mathematics.
A number of subjects, pathways and academies have additional entry requirements. Please see below the latest entry requirements for each subject.
A Level Computer Science
Students will be expected to have a minimum GCSE at grade 6 in Mathematics and Computer Science. If you haven’t had the opportunity to study Computer Science but you can demonstrate that you are at a Level 2 standard in programming, you may be considered.
A Level Mathematics
Students will be expected to have four GCSEs at grade 6 including Mathematics and grade 5 or above in English Language.
A Level Mathematics – Further
Students will be expected to have a minimum of three GCSEs at grade 6, with grade 8 or 9 in Mathematics and grade 5 or above in English Language, as well as one other grade 5 or above. To study Further Mathematics, students must also study A Level Mathematics.
A Level Psychology
Students will be expected to have a minimum GCSE grade 6 in Mathematics or a Science subject.
A Level Science Courses
Students intending to study single Science will be expected to have a minimum GCSE grade 6 in that subject and a further supporting Science subject or a 6,6 in Combined Science and grade 6 in Mathematics.
Vocational Science Courses
Students intending to study Applied Science will be expected to have a minimum of GCSE grade 5 in English Language or Mathematics and two grade 5s in GCSE Science or Combined Science.
Students are normally expected to have at least GCSE grade 4 in Art & Design, those who have not studied this at GCSE will be asked to bring samples of their work so that the best advice can be offered. Student may be invited on campus for a skills assessment.
Students wishing to study Performing Arts subjects will be invited to attend an audition, as well as achieving the minimum college entry requirements.
Students will be expected to have a minimum of six GCSEs at grade 7, 8 or 9, as well as grade 6 in English Language and Mathematics.
Students wishing to apply for the Cricket, Football or Sports Development Academy programmes should indicate this on the application form and will be required to submit suitable references from relevant sports teachers at school or team coaches, as well as successfully completing a sports trial.
Students must study either the Single or Triple Vocational A Level in Public Services to be eligible for selection.
Students will be expected to have five GCSEs at grade 7, 8 or 9 including two Science subjects and Mathematics and have taken three separate Sciences at school. Students will be studying two or more Sciences at A Level.
Students will be studying a Triple Vocational A Level in Health & Social Care at The Sixth Form Bolton and will be selected by their course leader in their first year.
Education and Early Years (T Level)
Students will be expected to have five GCSEs at grade 9-4, or a Merit in a relevant vocational Level 2 Diploma (or equivalent). In addition, students will be expected to have GCSE grade 4 in English Language and Mathematics. This course requires a high level of motivation and professionalism due to the amount of time spent in childcare settings.
You must have studied GCSE Spanish or be a native Spanish speaker in order to study this course.
