Cyber Security and Networks (AAQ)


Course overview

Our Extended Certificate in Cyber Security and Networks will give students a thorough understanding of cyber security threats and how networks operate, preparing them for progression to undergraduate study. It will equip students with the practical skills to audit measures used on networks to protect against cyberattacks and demonstrate how these can be improved.

Entry requirements

Students studying three A Levels and/or AAQs will be expected to have a minimum of two GCSEs at grade 5 and three at grade 4, including English Language and Mathematics.

Fundamentals of cyber security, Fundamentals of networks, Preventing cyber attacks, Digital forensic investigation, Implementing secure local area networks (LANs)

Assessment

Students must complete three mandatory and two optional units to be awarded the Extended Certificate in Cyber Security and Networks totalling 360 guided learning hours (GLH).

F193 Fundamentals of cyber security and F194 Fundamentals of networks are external examinations

Enrichment and Work Experience

Students will be encouraged to:

  • Take part in IT workshops.

  • Complete employer linked work related projects in IT-related industries.

Students are encouraged to take part in enrichment activities such as:

  • Guest lectures from data professionals.

  • Workshops on AI, machine learning, and data ethics.

  • Opportunities for work experience in IT, marketing, or analytics roles.
