A first-year student at The Sixth Form Bolton was over the moon recently to learn that he’s been offered a degree apprenticeship with Grant Thornton, a multinational professional services network, after completing a work placement with them.

It’s highly unusual for A Level students to be offered degree apprenticeships whilst they are still in their first year of their studies and first -year A level Economics, Further Mathematics and Mathematics student, Abdullahi Abdulle, was delighted to receive one.

Abdullahi, a former Sharples School student, really enjoyed his four-day work placement with Grant Thornton in Manchester where he learnt about public sector and commercial auditing alongside taking part in team building exercises. On the last day, he had an interview, and he was offered a Level 7 Commercial Audit Apprenticeship.

Abdullahi said:

I was really shocked, but happy, when I received my offer. My sister recommended the placement to me and my Progress Coach at The Sixth Form, Megan, encouraged me to apply. Before I started my placement with Grant Thornton, I hadn’t really considered a degree apprenticeship. After the four days, though, I knew it was something I really wanted to do.

Megan Nicholas, Abdullahi’s Progress Coach and The Sixth Form Bolton’s Honours Programme Coordinator said:

It’s an outstanding achievement that Abdullahi has secured a highly competitive Degree Apprenticeship offer in his first year of Sixth Form. His achievement is a testament to his exceptional talent, drive and it reflects not only his ability but also his dedication and maturity. As an outstanding student on the Honours Programme, Abdullahi continues to set the bar high and is a fantastic role model for his peers.

Everyone at The Sixth Form is really happy for Abdullahi and looking forward to following his progress.
