Second-year students at The Sixth Form Bolton are celebrating as offers begin to come in for some of the most competitive university courses in the country, including Medicine. With UCAS reporting a 10.4% rise in Medicine applications this year, entry is more competitive than ever, yet a growing number of students from the Sixth Form have already secured offers.

Among them is Jomi Ogunrewo, a former Bolton St Catherine’s Academy pupil. Jomi studies A Level Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics, alongside the Honours Programme and the Extended Project Qualification, and has received an offer to study Medicine at Lancaster University. She said:

“I was ecstatic when I got my offer! The application process was challenging, but I received a lot of help from my Progress Coach, Megan, and the Careers team. All my subject teachers were also very supportive.”

Melanie Kneale Baird, who joined The Sixth Form from Unsworth Academy, was equally delighted to receive offers from both the University of Aberdeen and Leeds. Melanie studies A Level Biology, Chemistry and Psychology and has already achieved an A in Level 3 Core Maths and an A* in her EPQ. She said:

“Receiving my Medicine offers was incredibly rewarding and made me realise how far I’ve come. After years of hard work, seeing it pay off was a proud moment that made everything feel real and motivated me to keep pushing toward becoming a doctor. My teachers have always pushed me to achieve my best, and my form tutor Megan has been especially supportive. She helped me balance my priorities while reminding me to look after my wellbeing. Her support, along with the wider student support system at B6, made a huge difference during a demanding time.”

Dana Albu Fahad was thrilled to receive an offer to study Medicine at the University of Central Lancashire. She said:

“I felt a sigh of relief when I received my offer, as it felt like all my hard work had paid off. My form tutor, Megan, was a huge help. She guided me through the application process and gave me really useful advice on my personal statement.”

These early successes highlight the dedication of students and the strength of the support systems at The Sixth Form Bolton. With more offers still coming in, the Sixth Form expects even more aspiring medics to secure places on these highly competitive courses.
