A second-year student from The Sixth Form Bolton was thrilled to discover that he has received an offer to study at the University of Cambridge.

Hamdan Nasir, who joined The Sixth Form Bolton from Harper Green School, studies A Level Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics, alongside the Honours Programme and the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). He has received an offer from Homerton College to study Natural Sciences.

Hamdan said:

“I was really excited when I found out I’d received an offer. Cambridge is such a prestigious university, and I’d really enjoyed my experience on their HE+ Programme at St John’s College. It was quite a long application process and I found it a little nerve‑wracking, but I had a lot of support from everyone at The Sixth Form. One of my maths teachers, Dr Lloyd, gave me advice and arranged mock interviews for me. I was able to meet with Mr Goodwin for a mock interview focused on speaking skills and Mr Doxsey for a Maths and Physics mock interview. I also liaised with one of The Sixth Form’s alumni, Pippa, who now studies at Cambridge, and she advised me on the application process.”

Alongside his A Levels, Hamdan is a member of the Honours Programme, The Sixth Form’s bespoke aspiration programme for academically gifted students. This has enabled him to access additional, tailored support for applying to Oxbridge, as well as the opportunity to complete his EPQ. His project explored the Dark Forest Theory and allowed him to demonstrate his strength in independent research and academic curiosity.

Everyone at The Sixth Form is over the moon for Hamdan and delighted to see his hard work come into fruition with Mark Goodwin, Assistant Principal - Student Experience commenting:

The College is proud to have supported Hamdan in gaining the opportunity to study Natural Sciences at Homerton College, Cambridge. Hamdan has proved an outstanding student with exceptional academic ability. What has underpinned this successful application is Hamdan’s genuine interest in his chosen subject, coupled with intellectual curiosity and ability to think independently. As a member of both our Honours and Cambridge HE+ masterclass programme, Hamdan has constantly looked to build on existing academic ability. We believe this is just the start of an exceptional journey for Hamdan, who deserves every success in the future.
