Zainab Dar
A second-year student from The Sixth Form Bolton was over the moon to find out she’s been successful in applying for a higher apprenticeship with Deloitte: one of the "Big Four" accounting firms and the largest professional services network in the world by revenue and number of employees.
Zainab Dar, who joined The Sixth Form Bolton after moving to the UK from Pakistan, studies A Level Economics, Mathematics and Further Mathematics. She became interested in working for Deloitte after completing their ASPIRE summer programme which she heard about from staff at The Sixth Form. Zainab’s Economics teacher, Helen Campion, planted the seed by talking to her class about the different accounting firms and the higher-level apprenticeship opportunities they offer.
Her BrightStart Apprenticeship will be based in London and will enable Zainab to achieve her AAT Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting and then Level 7 Chartered Tax Advisor qualification.
Higher apprenticeships are a fantastic way for students to gain higher and degree level qualifications whilst earning wages and avoiding university tuition fees. The recruitment process can be very competitive and in view of this, the B6 Careers Team run an Apprenticeship Academy which supports second year students who wish to secure higher and degree level apprenticeships after sixth form. This programme helps students to understand the competitive recruitment process and learn how to write strong applications and master interviews, with the goal of securing a highly competitive apprenticeship.
Claire Vassiloulis is currently running the Apprenticeship Academy and has supported Zainab throughout the application process. Zainab has commented:
“I’m extremely happy to be offered my first-choice apprenticeship from Deloitte in Tax consulting. This has been my dream for a long time and I’m really looking forward to starting this new journey in September 2026. A huge thanks to all my course teachers and the incredible Careers Team especially Claire Vassiloulis and Jill Whitham for helping me at every step of this process. This wouldn't have been possible without them two.”
Claire Vassiloulis, Careers and Employability Advisor commented:
“I am delighted for Zainab. She fully deserves her higher apprenticeship. She has been consistently proactive, actively seeking out opportunities and preparing well, making excellent use of the support and guidance provided by the careers team. I am sure she has a really bright future ahead of her and Deloitte are lucky to have her onboard!”
We would like to extend our congratulations to Zainab for securing this fantastic opportunity. To find out more about The Sixth Form’s Apprenticeship Academy, please visit: https://www.bolton-sfc.ac.uk/careers/apprenticeship-academy/
