Sixth Form Bolton Student Secures Prestigious Oxford Offer

Second-year students at The Sixth Form Bolton have been delighted to begin receiving responses to their university applications, with many securing offers from highly prestigious institutions.

Ailsa Fox, a former Darwen Aldridge Community Academy student, who studies A Level Biology, Chemistry and Psychology alongside the Honours Programme and an Extended Project Qualification at The Sixth Form, has secured an offer from Wadham College at the University of Oxford to study Biochemistry.

Ailsa said:

“I was really excited when I received my offer. I attended the UNIQ summer school at Oxford University last year and loved it, so I’d be thrilled to study there. My Progress Coach, Megan Nicholas, has been really helpful. She shared lots of relevant opportunities with me and read through my Personal Statement. All of my subject teachers have been really supportive, especially Ciaran Bach. I’d love to work in research in the future, and graduating from Oxford University would definitely support that.”

Alongside her A Levels, Ailsa completed the Extended Project Qualification, in which students undertake independent academic research on a topic of their choosing—usually linked to their career aspirations or areas of academic curiosity. The EPQ is highly valued by universities as it demonstrates commitment to independent learning and often strengthens applications. Ailsa achieved an A* for her project, which explored representations of crime in the media.

Everyone at The Sixth Form is thrilled for Ailsa and looks forward to following her exciting journey.
