The Sixth Form Bolton Students Take First Steps Toward Careers in Education

Results Day at The Sixth Form Bolton was filled with celebration as many students secured places on competitive university courses across the country. One particularly popular area this year was Primary Education and Early Years.

Among the successful students was Naomi Barber, a former Little Lever School student. Naomi is heading to Edge Hill University to study Primary Education with QTS, after achieving Distinction*, Distinction, Distinction on the Triple Vocational Children’s Play, Learning and Development course at The Sixth Form. She said:

“I would like to thank all my teachers for helping me to get through the course. I’m so excited to be progressing onto university.”

Rhianna Ruddock, formerly of Kearsley Academy, achieved Distinction*, Distinction*, Distinction in the same course and is joining Naomi at Edge Hill University to study Primary Education with QTS. She commented:

“I’d like to thank my teachers for their continued support. I’m so excited to start university and my dream career.”

Olivia Soares, a former Elton High School student, is heading to Manchester Metropolitan University to study Primary Education with QTS. Olivia studied A Levels in English Language and Sociology, along with Level 3 Vocational Business. She said:

“I’m so happy to be progressing onto university. I’ve made amazing friends at The Sixth Form and would really like to thank my Progress Coach for being so supportive.”

Other students also celebrating include:

  • Amna Hassan (former Essa Academy student), who is off to the University of Central Lancashire to study Child Development after achieving excellent results in Triple Level 3 Health & Social Care.

  • Aleksandra Brucka (from Bolton Islamic Girls' School), who will study Primary Education at Liverpool John Moores University after achieving top grades in Triple Level 3 Children’s Play, Learning and Development.

  • Isabella Kelly (former St James’s Church of England High School student), who is also heading to Edge Hill University to join Naomi and Rhianna in studying Primary Education with QTS.

Many of these students had taken the Triple Vocational Children’s Play, Learning and Development course at The Sixth Form, which has now been replaced by the exciting new T Level in Education & Early Years. This full-time Level 3 qualification is equivalent to three A Levels and provides students with both the Education and Early Years Level 3 Practitioner qualification and the Early Years Educator licence to practise.

Key benefits of the new T Level include:

  • Two days per week in college and two days in a real-world placement

  • Teaching by industry specialists

  • Forest school experience

  • University visits

  • First Aid training and certification

Caroline Oldroyd, Head of Vocational Social Science at The Sixth Form Bolton, said:

The new T-Level offers a fantastic route for those aspiring to pursue a degree in Primary Education, blending real-world experience with strong academic foundations to help them take their next steps with confidence.
