Second-year B6 student, Amber Curren
Second-year students from The Sixth Form Bolton had the opportunity to showcase their hard work to family, friends and college staff earlier this term at the Expressive Arts End of Year Exhibition.
The exhibition featured work from students studying A Level Art, Art, Craft & Design, Graphic Design, Photography and Textiles, as well as those on the Art, Design and Communication (UAL) course.
Amber Curren, a former Mount St Joseph student, studies A Level English Language and Literature, Fine Art, and Level 3 Applied Psychology at The Sixth Form. Reflecting on her experience, she said:
“I remember my journey at The Sixth Form beginning at the open events, where I admired other students’ work and thought I could never achieve anything close to that standard. Soon after, I experienced my first art lesson and enjoyed being part of a small, supportive class, sharing ideas, connecting with creative communities, exhibiting work in local galleries, and visiting major galleries in London and Paris. Looking around the exhibition now, I reflect on how far I have come – from being inspired by others’ work to exhibiting my own. My advice to any new student is not to compare yourself to other people’s work. Instead, use it as motivation. Even the greatest artists learned by studying and recreating the work of others before developing their own style. Let the work around you inspire growth, because every artist starts somewhere, and every creative journey builds on what came before.”
Debbie Wynne, Head of Expressive Arts at The Sixth Form Bolton, praised the exhibition and the high standard of work on display, saying:
"Our exhibition is a wonderful celebration of the exceptional talent, creativity and commitment of our students. The work on display reflects not only their artistic skills, but also the dedication, resilience and personal development they have demonstrated throughout their time in sixth form. We are incredibly proud of all they have achieved and of the high standard of work they have produced. As they move on to higher education, apprenticeships and new opportunities, we wish them every success in the future and look forward to seeing the contributions they will make in their chosen paths."
