B6 Launches Inspiring Student Leadership Programmes

Last week, some of our first-year students enjoyed half a day off timetable to find out more about the Prosper and Women into Leadership programmes.

In the morning, many students attended the Women into Leadership launch. Our Women into Leadership Programme seeks to remove as many barriers as we can for our female students in order that they are able to follow their chosen paths in life and careers.

The programme will offer the students many opportunities including workshops on Self-Leadership, Personal Finance and Delivering Presentations as well as talks by guest speakers such as Dr. Helen Wall, the lead for the Covid vaccination programme in Bolton. The group will also be invited to attend an annual luncheon where they will be joined by local female leaders. They will also be invited to a cultural and university visit.

The Women into Leadership Programme launched with an engaging and thought-provoking session delivered by guest speaker, Hywel Roberts. Hywel is an educational speaker who describes himself as an ‘imagineer’ and someone who wants to support students to learn and be creative. His session looked at leadership and what makes a good leader and involved a fantastic hands-on teamworking exercise.

In the afternoon, the brand new Prosper programme was launched with activities that echoed the morning’s schedule. Having worked with a large number of employers in the private, public and voluntary sectors, we recognise that males need the opportunities to work on their skills to support their personal ambitions. Having asked our male learners where they feel their skill gaps are, they agree with the employers! On that basis, we have planned an exciting programme of activities, designed to help those who participate to develop personally and professionally in order to become better leaders of the future.

The Prosper Programme will give students the chance to attend talks by guest speakers from organisations including BAE Systems and Hewlett Packard and workshops on topics such as Developing Personal Currency.

Everyone who attended the launch events engaged with the activities wonderfully and we are very much looking forward to supporting them on their journeys beyond the glass ceiling.
