Bury Students Excel at The Sixth Form Bolton

Students from across Bury are celebrating outstanding academic success after completing their studies at The Sixth Form Bolton, with many progressing to prestigious Russell Group universities.

The Russell Group is made up of 24 leading UK universities, recognised for world-class research, teaching excellence and strong graduate career prospects. This year's destinations for Bury students include the Universities of Leeds, Liverpool, Nottingham and Newcastle.

Among the high achievers is Melanie Kneale Baird, formerly of Unsworth Academy, who has progressed to the University of Leeds to study Medicine. Melanie achieved an A* in her Extended Project Qualification, A grades in Biology, Psychology and Core Maths, and a B in Chemistry.

Melanie said:

"Thank you to my Honours Programme tutor for supporting me not just through academics but also difficult periods of time. She provided guidance and reassurance throughout Year 13 which helped massively. I would like to also thank all of the Student Services team for always being there for me and my mum and going above and beyond."

Sara Shokatyan, formerly of The Elton High School, has progressed to the University of Liverpool to study Criminology after achieving outstanding BTEC results, including Distinction Star grades in Applied Law and Public Services, alongside a Distinction Star in Applied Psychology.

Sara said:

"A massive thank you to my teachers and progress coach for their continued support and believing in me when I couldn't believe in myself."

Former Bury Grammar School student Max Craig is heading to Newcastle University to study Sport and Exercise Science after achieving an A* in Computer Science, A grades in Physical Education, Core Maths and the Extended Project Qualification, and a B in Business Studies.

Max said:

"I have so many teachers to thank. Thank you all for being great teachers and supporting me when I needed it, for making every lesson engaging and for always helping me learn."

Isla Butterworth, formerly of The Derby High School, will progress to the University of Nottingham to study Neuroscience after achieving an A* in Mathematics and A grades in Psychology and Biology.

Isla said:

"I've had the best time ever studying at B6 and have met the most incredible people!"

Stuart Merrills, Principal at The Sixth Form Bolton said:
