Second-year students at The Sixth Form Bolton have been delighted to hear back from their university applications recently with a number of students receiving offers for Dentistry, Medicine and Veterinary Science.
Gizem Hasanova, a former Little Lever student who studies A Level Biology, Chemistry, Psychology and Core Maths at The Sixth Form was delighted to receive an offer for Medicine at York Hull Medical School. Gizem said:
" I'm so grateful to have had access to the careers team during my time at the sixth form, not only did they help me by providing information on what I needed to do to apply for medicine, but they also gave me incredible opportunities such as observing surgeries and many more which really helped develop my experiences and increased my motivation.”
Awais Muhammad, a former Harper Green student who studies A Level Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics with the Honours Programme and EPQ, was over the moon to receive an offer for Dentistry at The University of Manchester saying:
“I am extremely appreciative of receiving an offer for Dentistry from the University of Manchester, especially because it is one of the best dental institutes in the world. Being in The Sixth Form Bolton allowed me to build a balanced application due to the numerous opportunities available. Taking part in the medical academy allowed me to get hands-on experience with rat dissections and prepare for the admission test by practising questions and learning techniques with other aspiring dental and medicine applicants. The support from the careers team and my progress coach gave me immense confidence during the strenuous application process.”
Everyone at The Sixth Form was also delighted to hear that Gabrielle Hope, a former Westhoughton High School student, had secured offers for Veterinary Science from several universities with the University of Nottingham being her first choice. Gabrielle, who studies A Level Biology, Chemistry, English Literature, Core Maths and Honours Programme with EPQ said:
“I’ve always wanted to become a vet as I’ve grown up around animals and loved the idea of being able to help them. I’ve done lots of work experience in veterinary practices and have gained over 200 hours experience in a practice in Adlington. I’ve been shadowing a postgraduate vet and have most enjoyed seeing live surgery. I did a lot of preparation for my university applications and Jill Whitham, from The Sixth Form Careers team, helped me to prepare for my interviews. I’m really happy to have received offers from the universities of Liverpool, Nottingham and Surrey. My first choice is Nottingham as I loved the campus atmosphere when I visited on open day. “
The staff at The Sixth Form love to see the students’ hard work come into fruition with Jill Whitham, Head of Careers saying:
“Students who aspire to a place at Medical, Dental or Veterinary school have to go through an extremely competitive and rigorous selection process. Our Sixth Form Careers Programme provides many opportunities for such students and helps them to develop the skills, knowledge and experience needed to make their applications stand out from the crowd. Awais, Gizem and Gabrielle have seized upon many of these opportunities, including: taking part in Operating Theatre Live and Medical Mavericks; embarking on work experience; taking part in interview skills workshops delivered by University of Leeds and last but not least, accessing 1:1 guidance with the B6 careers team for support and guidance with careers research, UCAS applications and preparation for university interviews. We are so proud that Awais, Gizem and Gabrielle's hard work and determination has paid off and I'm sure they all have a very bright future ahead of them.”
